CN20 - Soul of Tibet – 9 Days Context
Buried in China’s far west, Tibet is one of the most isolated
and wild regions in the Asia. Aside from being geographically isolated
as the Roof of the World, the traditions and lifestyles sets its
people apart from the rest of China. To truly appreciate the region’s
uniqueness, the guest must get in touch with the region’s
history, religion, and most importantly, its people. In this journey
we visit various significant sacred sites, including what is believed
to be the first monastery in Tibet and the tomb of the first Dalai
Lama. We venture out of central Lhasa into the surrounding region
to soak in the rarely appreciated rural Tibetan life. We visit and
speak with local people from various walks of life—a master
lama, a traditional Tibetan furniture maker, and a Tibetan village
family. We stay at accommodations modeled after the courtyards that
were inhabited by ancient lamas and camp on the Roof of the World
under the Tibetan starlight.

Comfort Level
Rigorous
These journeys typically feature 9 or more days of touring with
about 8(+) hours of walking per day. Though there will not be any
overly demanding treks, these trips are rated rigorous because of
the extended itinerary and difficult travel conditions. The journey
might involve consecutive days of driving or camping. When outside
of common destinations the journey will stay at guesthouses, home
stays, and\or camp. These journeys are best for sightseeing enthusiasts,
who want a more complete exposure to China.
